New Commission to Accelerate NHS Use of AI
Summary: On 26th September 2025, the UK government announced the formation of the National Commission on the Regulation of AI in Healthcare. This commission aims to advise the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) on updating the regulatory framework for AI in healthcare, with a new rulebook expected next year. The commission comprises experts from major tech companies, clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates. It will focus on accelerating access to AI tools, such as AI assistants for doctors and technologies for radiology, pathology, and remote patient monitoring, by addressing regulatory uncertainties. The initiative aligns with the government's Plan for Change to modernise the NHS and improve patient care.
