Centres of Excellence for Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSIs)

Summary: The Centres of Excellence for Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSIs) are a new MHRA-backed initiative, launched in early 2025, to develop safer and more effective medicines and medical products while speeding up patient access. The network of seven centres — jointly funded with Innovate UK, the Medical Research Council and the Office for Life Sciences — brings together academia, regulators and industry to tackle regulatory challenges in areas such as advanced therapies, digital health, artificial intelligence, diagnostics and in-silico modelling. By generating new tools, evidence and guidance for regulation, the CERSIs aim to modernise regulatory pathways, support high-quality innovation and ensure that promising technologies can reach patients in a timely and responsible way.
