Regulation of AI in healthcare – MHRA Call for Evidence
Summary: Published on 18th December 2025, this Call for Evidence will inform recommendations from the National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare, which is advising the MHRA on how to regulate AI technologies safely and effectively. The MHRA is seeking input from patients, clinicians, healthcare providers, industry, regulators and international stakeholders on whether the current framework is sufficient and how it should evolve to ensure fast access to safe and effective AI medical devices. Key areas include how safety should be monitored once AI devices are in use (especially when systems update or adapt), and how responsibility and liability should be shared across developers, deployers and regulators. The consultation closes at 11:59pm on 2nd February 2026, and responses can be submitted online, by email or by post. A supporting document (PDF) provides background and detailed questions to guide submissions.
