New UK-Swiss workshop explores scaling pharmaceutical research in space

Summary: Representatives from the UK Space Agency, MHRA, pharmaceutical companies, regulators, academia and investors met at the inaugural UK-Swiss Microgravity Biopharma Dialogue to identify the steps needed to accelerate pharmaceutical research and manufacturing in space. Discussions focused on building stronger evidence of value, developing common standards, providing greater regulatory clarity and increasing awareness across the pharmaceutical sector. The workshop builds on ongoing collaboration between the MHRA and UK Space Agency, with a joint regulatory roadmap for in-orbit pharmaceutical manufacturing expected later this year to support safe commercialisation and international alignment.
