Summary: The HRA has started a pilot project inviting sponsors and NHS/Health and Social Care (HSC) organisations to provide feedback on a draft Information Governance guide that aims to reduce uncertainty and duplication when setting up research studies. The guide explains how IG is assessed at study-wide review and clarifies what information sponsors must provide, what reviewers check centrally, and where local checks may still be needed. It brings together IG information already expected under the UK Study-Wide Governance Criteria and proposes new tools such as an IG Annex and a Processor Matrix to help present sponsor IG assurances clearly. The pilot runs until 30 April 2026, and the HRA is particularly interested in views on how useful and proportionate the approach is. This work supports the UK Clinical Research Delivery (UKCRD) programme to create a more efficient research delivery system.
