MHRA welcomes Professor Jacob George as he starts Chief Medical and Scientific Officer role

The MHRA has announced that Professor Jacob George has begun his role as the agency’s first Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, starting on 5th January 2026. The new post is intended to strengthen scientific excellence across MHRA and shape the agency’s future regulation through its science strategy. Professor George is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Therapeutics at the University of Dundee Medical School and a consultant physician in NHS Tayside, with expertise in clinical pharmacology and cardiovascular risk. He will work from MHRA’s London headquarters and its science campus in Hertfordshire, while retaining his base in Scotland — reflecting MHRA’s aim to be a visible regulator across all four UK nations.
