Summary: The Government has tabled three amendments to the Health Bill as part of wider reforms affecting the MHRA. The proposals would clarify the MHRA’s powers to share information with trusted UK organisations and international regulatory partners, while maintaining safeguards for commercially sensitive and patient information. They would also make medicines and medical device legislation easier to update in response to changing technical standards, international guidelines, science and technology, alongside a more proportionate approach to consultation. A third amendment would create enabling powers for a potential future MHRA medical device licensing regime in Great Britain, which could allow devices using a domestic route to require an MHRA-issued licence rather than relying solely on third-party conformity assessments. Any future system would be risk proportionate and subject to further policy development, consultation and parliamentary scrutiny. No immediate regulatory changes are introduced by the amendments.
