Patients to Receive Medicines 3–6 Months Sooner Under 10-Year Health Plan
The UK government has unveiled a new initiative under the 10-Year Health Plan to expedite patient access to innovative medicines. Through a joint information-sharing agreement, pharmaceutical companies are encouraged to register early with both the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). This collaboration allows for parallel decision-making on licensing and value assessments, enabling more medicines to be approved for NHS use simultaneously with their UK licensing. As a result, patients in England are expected to access the newest treatments 3–6 months earlier. The initiative also aims to reduce administrative costs for businesses by 25%, reflecting the government's commitment to smarter regulation and economic growth in the life sciences sector.
