Summary: The MHRA has launched an AI Sandbox designed to help innovators, researchers and pharmaceutical companies safely develop, test and refine artificial intelligence technologies for medicines regulation and development. The initiative will enable organisations to work directly with MHRA experts in a controlled environment to explore how AI can be used to improve regulatory processes, support drug development and enhance patient safety. The Sandbox aims to identify regulatory challenges early, generate practical insights for future guidance and encourage responsible innovation. The programme forms part of the MHRA's broader strategy to harness emerging technologies while ensuring robust safeguards remain in place for patients and the public. By providing a structured route for testing novel AI applications, the agency hopes to accelerate access to innovative medicines and strengthen the UK's position as a global leader in life sciences and regulatory science.
